Dear SAU 50 Community,
On Wednesday, March 25th, the SAU 50 Joint Board accepted the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Stephen Zadravec, effective at the conclusion of the 2026 school year. We thank Dr. Zadravec for his outstanding leadership and contributions to the district over the past four years. Steve has been instrumental in building a strong SAU 50 administrative team. We wish him the best in his new role in Amesbury, Massachusetts.
The Board assembled a committee including stakeholders from each school district, spanning a number of different roles (teachers, school admin, paraprofessionals, school board, and SAU admin), and the search process is underway. Despite a condensed timeline, the process will be thorough and we have already seen a strong pool of candidates.
As we look for the new leader of the SAU 50 schools, we would like to hear from you, the community, about the qualities you’d like to see in this person.
Superintendent Search - Community Input
**This link will be active for feedback until Monday, March 30th.
In the coming weeks, finalists for the Superintendent position will visit schools across the district to meet with staff and administrators as well as the SAU 50 Admin team. They will also meet with community members in an open forum. We will share this schedule in advance so families have time to plan and attend. Our goal is to have a decision before April break - however we will prioritize getting the right person over the speed of the process.
We will continue to share updates along the way, but want you to know that a strong succession plan is a top priority, and we thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Matt Curtin
SAU 50 Joint Board Chair

Open House and Newington School Supporters (NSS) meeting will take place tomorrow evening, Monday, September 8, at 6:30 PM at Newington Public School.
Here’s the plan for the evening:
We’ll begin with a brief tour of the building, giving parents a chance to see each classroom.
After the tour, we’ll gather in the gym, where I’ll share key information about instruction, policies, and happenings at NPS.
Finally, we’ll close with a conversation about the Newington School Supporters and the many ways families can be active members of our learning community.
My goal is to keep the entire program under an hour, providing families with an efficient and informative overview of our school year ahead.
I look forward to seeing you tomorrow evening!
Please be advised that beginning in September, all Newington School Board meetings will be held on the third Thursday of every month at 5pm at Newington Public School.
Additionally, all New Castle School Board meetings will be held on the third Tuesday of every month at 5pm at MHT
