Donations for Hurricane Relief
We are excited to announce a social project that we will be working on over the next few days in conjunction with the Newington Police Department and the Newington Fire Department. We are so fortunate to live in Newington, a community with many resources and the ability to help other communities in need. We hope that, through donating and education, this project will help make students aware of what happens beyond Newington and how we can help others in need. Chief Bilodeau of the Newington Police Department will be traveling to North Carolina to assist those affected by the recent hurricane. He is kindly asking for donations of essential items to support families in need. Because homes were destroyed, a lot of families were forced to stay out in the cold in camping-type situations.
If you would like to contribute, please bring your donations to the school by Friday of this week. You may send them in with your student or leave them in the front vestibule between the hours of 7:30a and 5:30p.
Below is a list of suggested items:
- Cold weather gear (jackets, socks, gloves/mittens for kids and adults)
- Tarps
- Rope
- Batteries
- Flashlights/headlamps/lanterns
- Sleeping bags (rated for 30 below)
- Blankets
- Winter jackets (new or gently used—used items should be cleaned)
- Hand/feet warmers
- Winter hats
- Emergency blankets
- Camping necessities
- Small propane bottles
Your generosity and support is greatly appreciated. Thank you for helping to make a difference for those in need.

Back To School Letter
I hope this letter finds you well and that you’ve enjoyed a wonderful summer with your family and friends. As we approach the beginning of another school year, I am filled with excitement and anticipation for what lies ahead. This will be my 13th year as principal of Newington Public School, and I continue to be inspired by the dedication and spirit of our incredible community.
Our school is looking great, thanks to the ongoing efforts of many to ensure our facilities provide the best environment for the students of Newington Public School. You’ll be pleased to know that new elements are being installed on our playground as we speak, which I’m sure will be a big hit with the students when they return!
Our teachers have been hard at work, preparing their classrooms and fine-tuning their plans to ensure a fantastic start to the year. Their dedication to your children’s education is truly remarkable, and I know they are eager to welcome their new students.
Please make note of the following important dates:
- Kindergarten Camp: Thursday, August 29th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The bus schedule will be shared with you shortly.
- First Day of School: Tuesday, September 3rd. We can’t wait to see everyone back at NPS!
- Back-to-School Cookout: Wednesday, September 4th from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Old Town Hall. This event is generously sponsored by Newington School Supporters (NSS), who will be providing pizza, water, and snacks. It’s a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with other families and our staff as we kick off the school year.
- Newington School Supporters Fox Point Sunset Road Race: Saturday, September 28th. The kids’ fun run begins at 4:30 PM, followed by the main race at 5:00 PM. As the school’s sole fundraiser, this event is vital to our school community, and we encourage all families to participate and volunteer in some capacity to help make it a success.
I’m looking forward to seeing you all at these events and throughout the school year. Let’s work together to make this a successful year for our students.
